En detektivdokumentar.

Mary Reklev (84) er Norges første kvinnelige private detektiv. Med over 40 års erfaring løste hun mer enn 1000 saker. Folk som kom til henne for hjelp hadde alle noe til felles - en frykt for å bli lurt. Men det de ikke visste var at Mary delte denne samme frykten. Mannen som lærte henne alt om detektivarbeid, som hvem hun delte både et kontor og et hjem, forrådte henne. I «Skyggen» forsøker Mary å løse sin siste sak: seg selv.

A detective-documentary.

Mary Reklev (84) is Norway’s first female private detective. With over 40 years of experience, she solved more than 1000 cases. The people that came to her for help all had something in common – a fear of being deceived. But what they did not know was that Mary shared the same fear. The man who taught her everything about detective work, with whom she shared both an office and a home, betrayed her. In “the Shadow” Mary attempts to solve her last case: herself.

Rekonstruksjon av en familie / Reconstructing A Family

Hvordan velger vi å fortelle historiene fra vår fortid?

 Det var en skilsmisse som så mange andre: Traumatisk og trist for familien på fire, men i det store bildet kun en dråpe i det statistiske havet. Tjue år senere gjenforteller de sine minner. Hvordan var det egentlig? Hvorfor gikk det galt? Og hvordan har minnene forandret seg over tid?

Med familiens fortellinger som lydspor rekonstruerer filmen de visuelle minnene og prøver å fange fortiden gjennom lyset fra nåtiden.

How do we choose to tell the stories from our past?

It was a family break-up like many others – but traumatic and sad for the family of four. Twenty years later they recollect their memories. How was it really, why did it go wrong, and how have the memories changed with time?  Using their narration as a soundtrack, the film reconstructs the visual imagery and tries to capture the past through the lens of the present.

Dagbok fra Revolusjonen / Diary From The Revolution

"Jeg vet ikke hvorfor jeg drar dit. Jeg vet bare at jeg ikke kan sitte her og se det som skjer uten å være en del av det."

Sommeren 2011, etter å ha bodd i utlandet i et tiår, reiser den norsk-libyske filmmakeren Nizam Najjar tilbake til Libya for å fange de enorme endringene som påvirker nasjonen . Han blir den offisielle kameramannen for Al-Gabra-militsen i Misrata, og får ekstraordinær tilgang til slagmarken - og til tankene og drømmene til de som kjemper for å avslutte et undertrykkende regime.

Dagbok fra revolusjonen kommer til hjertet av håpet, desillusjonen, hjertesorg og humor i denne gruppen av menn mens de gjenoppretter seg selv etter en turbulent fortid samtidig som de konfronterer en usikker fremtid.

In the summer of 2011, after a decade of living abroad, Norwegian-Libyan filmmaker Nizam Najjar returns to Libya to capture the sweeping changes affecting the nation. He becomes the official cameraman for the Al-Gabra militia in Misrata, gaining extraordinary access to the battlefield – and to the thoughts and dreams of those fighting to end an oppressive regime.

Diary from the Revolution gets to the heart of the aspirations, disillusionment, heartache and humor of this group of men as they recover from a turbulent past and confront an uncertain future.

Jørgen er en institusjon inni en institusjon. Som leder av utstyrsavdelingen ved et stort kringkastningsfirma avslører hans oppriktige innslag og direkte utvekslinger spenningen mellom en dyprotet arbeidskultur og kravene til dagens tv-produksjon. De peker også på en bredere kamp i statlige institusjoner: opprettholde kvaliteten på arbeidserfaringen for de ansatte mens de leverer sine utfordrende oppgaver.

The musings and reflections of Jørgen

Jørgen is an institution within an institution. As head of the equipment department at a major broadcaster, his candid accounts and blunt exchanges reveal the tensions between a deep rooted work culture and the demands of present-day television production. They also point to a broader struggle in governmental institutions: maintaining the quality of the work experience for employees while delivering their challenging requests.

imagining emanuel

Emanuel har ukjent identitet og oppholder seg illegalt i Norge. Han kom til landet i 2003, men ønsker ikke å leve som illegal, og har forsøkt å få returnere til sitt hjemland uten hell. Han hevder å komme fra Liberia, men norske myndigheter hevder derimot at Emanuel kommer fra Ghana, og har tvangssendt ham dit to ganger. Hver gang har Ghana returnert ham til Norge med beskjed om at han ikke er Ghaneser. Emanuel er dermed dømt til et liv i limbo, uten oppholdstillatelse og rettigheter, men også uten utreisemulighet.Thomas A. Østbye tilnærmer seg Emanuel ved hjelp av en rekke forskjellige dokumentarsjangere, og de forskjellige avbildningene gir oss ulike inntrykk av den samme mannen. Hvem er Emanuel? Hva er identitet? Hvordan kan identitet avbildes? Hvem besitter sannheten?

Emanuel has an unknown identity and resides illegally in Norway. He came to the country in 2003, but does not want to live as an illegal, and has tried to get back to his home country without luck. He claims to be from Liberia, but the Norwegian authorities on the other hand, claim that Emanuel is from Ghana and has sent him there twice. Each time, Ghana has returned him to Norway, saying that he is not Ghanaian. Emanuel is condemned to a life in limbo, without a residence permit or rights, but also without the possibility of departure. Who is Emanuel? What is identity? How can identity be depicted? Who possesses the truth?

reunion - ti år etter krigen / reunion - ten years after the war

I 1999 lagde regissør Jon Haukeland en film om møtet mellom en gruppe serbere og albanere fra Kosovo som møttes rett før krigen brøt ut. Siden den gang har partene levd adskilt fra hverandre. Ti år etter samler han deltagerne igjen. For første gang får de se filmen om seg selv. Det utløser en psykologisk prosess hos både vinnerne og taperne av krigen. De som før var ofre har inntatt undertrykkernes rolle.

Gjensynet med fortiden gjør at deltagerne for første gang opplever å ha noe til felles med fienden. Når møtet går mot slutten utløser dette et overraskende vendepunkt.

In 1999, director Jon Haukeland made a film about the meeting between a group of Serbians and Albanians from Kosovo who met just before the war broke out. Since then, the parties have lived apart from each other. Ten years later he unites the participants again. For the first time they see the film about themselves. It triggers a psychological process with both the winners and the losers of the war. Those who before were victims have taken on the role of the oppressors.

The reunion with the past means that the participants for the first time experience having something in common with the enemy. Towards the end of the meeting, this triggers a surprising turning point.

Hvordan definerer kvinner sine roller når det ikke er mann i sikte?

Martine (24) utvikler fortsatt sin identitet. Hun ønsker å bli sett på som et mandig individ - ikke en lesbe. Mette (35) - filmens regissør - drømmer om å bli mor. Hun og hennes kone Stina står overfor det store spørsmålet; Vil vår beby ikke ha noen far? Marja (78) og Bodil, en del av den første åpenlyst homofile generasjonen, syns at deres nye leilighet er for mandig og trenger et kjønsskifte.

How do women define their roles when there is no man in sight?

Martine (24) is still developing her identity. She wants to be seen as a masculine individual – not a lesbian. Mette (35) – the film’s director – is dreaming of becoming a mother. She and her wife Stina, face the big question; Is our baby not going to have a father? Marja (78) and Bodil, part of the first openly gay generation, think their new apartment is too masculine and needs “gender reassignment surgery”.

HVIT NIGGER / THE WHITE NIGGER

En dokumentar om den prisbelønte norske forfatteren Ingvar Ambjørnsen.

Ingvar Ambjørnsen er en av Norges mest fremtredende forfattere, forfatter av en rekke prisbelønte bøker som forteller historiene om sosiale outsidere og misfits, inkludert boken den Oscar-nominerte film, Elling (2000), er basert på.

Filmen følger Ambjørnsen fra sin rolle som en sosialt utestengt provokatør, til hans litterære suksess og aksept i et samfunn som tidligere ga ham kallenavnet The White Nigger.

A documentary about the award-winning Norwegian writer Ingvar Ambjørnsen.

Ingvar Ambjørnsen is one of Norway’s most prominent writers, author of numerous award-winning books telling the tales of social outsiders and misfits, including the source novel for the Oscar-nominated film, Elling (2000).

The film Follows Ambjørnsen from his role as an outcast and provocateur, to his literary success and acceptance in a society that previously gave him the nickname The White Nigger.

SAMARITANEN / SAMARITAN

Knut er en ensom, middelaldrende mann. En dag møter han tilfeldigvis Mirza, en ulovlig innvandrer. Han bestemmer seg for å invitere ham hjem.

Knut is a lonely middle aged man. One day he accidently meets Mirza, an illegal immigrant. He decides to invite him home.

Midt i finanskrisen har den norske staten en nasjonalplan for hvordan man skal forbli rik og samtidig sove godt om natten. Basen på inntekter fra Nordsjø-oljen er nesten 1 milliard kroner inn i Oljefondet, hver dag. Oljefondet er et av verdens største investeringsfond. Oljefondet eier aksjer i mer enn 8000 internasjonale selskaper. Det norske statsfondet vil tvinge multinasjonale selskaper til å oppføre seg bedre. Som vanlig er det lettere sagt enn gjort.

In the middle of the finance crisis, the Norwegian State has a national plan for how to stay rich and at the same time sleep well at night, Base on the revenue from the North Sea oil almost 1 billion Nkr is poured into the Oil Fund, every day. The oil fund is one of the largest single investments fund in the world. The oil fund own stocks in more than 8000 international companies. But the Norwegian state fund wants to force the multinationals to behave better. As usual, it is easier said than done.

Dokumentarfilmen Human studerer hva som er menneskelig – når mennesket er tatt ut av sin kontekst. Hvor nære kan vi komme den andre, før det blir umenneskelig, - eller kanskje for menneskelig? Filmen spiller opp vår kategoriseringstrang mot det konkrete og udefinerbare møte med et annet menneske.

The documentary Human studies what is human - when people are taken out of context. How close can we get to the other before it becomes inhuman, or maybe too human? The film puts our need for categorization up against the concrete and undefinable encounters with another human being.
